Pixel Buds Pro 2 Gemini Audio Controls: Setup and Missing App Checks

Set up Pixel Buds Pro 2 Gemini audio controls, check a missing Connected App and keep staged app behavior separate from features still awaiting firmware.

Google announced Gemini audio control for Pixel Buds Pro 2, but the September rollout is staged. Update the required apps, set Gemini as your assistant and check Connected Apps; a missing Pixel Buds app does not prove that your earbuds or account are misconfigured.

How do I use Gemini to change Pixel Buds Pro 2 audio settings?

Start with Google's current general requirements for Gemini on Pixel Buds. You need an Android 10 or later phone or tablet, the latest Gemini app, Google app and Google Pixel Buds app, Gemini selected as the default digital assistant, a signed-in Google Account and an internet connection.

  1. Update the three required apps. Check the Play Store for current versions of Gemini, Google and Google Pixel Buds.
  2. Set Gemini as the digital assistant. On Android, open Settings, then Apps, Assistant and Digital assistants from Google, and choose Gemini. Google also documents the equivalent setting inside the Google app.
  3. Connect Pixel Buds Pro 2. Confirm that the earbuds are paired and available in the Pixel Buds companion app before testing a voice request.
  4. Check Gemini Connected Apps. In the Gemini mobile app, open the menu, your profile and Connected Apps. Google notes that the exact list varies by app, device, country and account context.
  5. Try Google's confirmed example. With the earbuds connected, ask: “Hey Google, turn up the bass.” If the Pixel Buds connection is available, Gemini should route the request to the earbuds rather than merely open Bluetooth settings.

Google announced the audio-control feature on August 12 and said Pixel Buds Pro 2 software updates would begin rolling out in September. The company has not published one date when the control must appear for every user.

Which Pixel Buds controls are confirmed in the current rollout?

There are two evidence levels. Google directly confirms that Gemini audio control is coming to Pixel Buds Pro 2 and gives bass adjustment as its public example. Separately, 9to5Google reported on September 28 that Pixel Buds app version 1.0.981607934 exposed an @Pixel Buds Connected App with controls for EQ preset, active-noise-cancellation mode, conversation detection and touch controls.

Those additional controls are a useful current rollout observation, but they are not yet listed on Google's general Connected Apps Help page. Treat them as staged app behavior rather than a promise that every account, region or phone has the same menu today.

If a command works, listen for Gemini's confirmation and verify the setting in the Pixel Buds app. Voice confirmation is convenient, but the companion app remains the clearest place to check whether the intended EQ, ANC or touch-control state actually changed.

Why is the Pixel Buds Connected App missing in Gemini?

The most likely explanation is availability, not necessarily a fault. Google's Connected Apps page says app availability varies by Gemini app, device, country and account context. Google's Pixel Buds announcement says the software starts rolling out in September rather than becoming universal on one day.

Before changing hardware or erasing settings, check these boundaries:

  • App currency: verify that Gemini, Google and Pixel Buds are fully updated through the Play Store.
  • Assistant choice: confirm Gemini, not Google Assistant, is the active digital assistant.
  • Account context: inspect Connected Apps while signed in to the account you actually use with Gemini. Google documents different behavior for personal versus work or school contexts.
  • Device and region: remember that Connected Apps can vary by device and country even when the same app version is installed.
  • Rollout timing: recheck after Play Store and Pixel Buds updates arrive. One reported build number does not guarantee server-side access for every account.

Do not factory-reset the earbuds, delete account data or assume a hardware defect solely because @Pixel Buds is absent. Google's current public Help does not prescribe those actions for this staged Connected App rollout.

Did Dynamic ANC, Pixel Watch sleep sync and upgraded Live Translate arrive in the same update?

Not based on the current evidence. Google's August announcement lists four separate Pixel Buds Pro 2 additions: Dynamic ANC, Gemini audio control, Pixel Watch sleep sync and upgraded Live Translate. It says software updates start rolling out in September, but it does not say one app build activates all four features together.

9to5Google's September 28 observation specifically covers the Gemini Connected App and reported audio-setting controls. The report says Dynamic ANC, Watch sleep sync and upgraded Live Translate still appeared to need a separate firmware update. Until Google publishes feature-by-feature availability or the firmware arrives on a particular device, do not use the Connected App as proof that the other features are live.

What should I test after the Pixel Buds app appears?

  1. Ask for one reversible setting change, such as a different EQ preset or ANC mode.
  2. Open the Pixel Buds app and verify the exact setting rather than relying only on a spoken response.
  3. Return the setting to your preferred state manually or by voice.
  4. Test conversation detection and touch controls separately so you know which request changed which behavior.
  5. If Gemini opens Bluetooth settings instead of controlling the earbuds, recheck the Connected App and staged availability rather than repeating more destructive troubleshooting.

This sequence keeps the test observable and reversible. It also separates the new Gemini control path from normal Bluetooth pairing, firmware delivery and the earbuds' physical touch controls.

Where does this fit with other Pixel Buds coverage?

Erawish's Made by Google 2026 launch and accessory wait guide covers the broader launch context. This page owns the narrower software setup and missing-control question. For physical case protection, lid security and model-specific charging-case fit, use the Google Pixel Buds collection; a protective case does not enable or block a Gemini Connected App.

What remains unknown?

Google has not published a rollout percentage, universal completion date, country-by-country list, account matrix or a Help page that names every supported Pixel Buds setting. It also has not said that app version 1.0.981607934 guarantees access. The current safe conclusion is narrower: Google announced Gemini audio control for Pixel Buds Pro 2, current reporting observed the Connected App and several settings on September 28, and staged availability can leave an otherwise valid setup without the control for now.
