Microsoft says existing OneDrive photos remain unchanged and accessible in the OneDrive app or on the web, even though OneDrive items stop appearing inside Samsung Gallery through the old connection. Samsung says users who want originals on the phone can download them before the cutoff from Gallery or through OneDrive. This is a change to the integration, not a notice that Microsoft will erase your stored files.

How do I keep new Galaxy photos backed up to OneDrive?

  1. Open the OneDrive app and sign in to the Microsoft account that should receive the photos.
  2. Open your account profile, choose Camera backup, select the intended account and turn backup on.
  3. Grant the requested photo and video access, and check that you have available OneDrive storage.
  4. Take or choose a non-sensitive test photo, allow backup to finish, then verify it in the OneDrive app or onedrive.com under the right account.

9to5Google, Android Authority and SamMobile reported on September 18 that a Gallery option to connect Google Photos had begun appearing through staged app updates. These are reports of observed rollout, not a Samsung support promise that every Galaxy model, region or account has the option today. If your Gallery settings show a Google Photos sync choice, review the account and on-screen permissions before enabling it. If it does not appear, do not assume the OneDrive cutoff is postponed; use a backup path you can verify now.

The reported integration should not be confused with migrating old OneDrive files. SamMobile and 9to5Google say Gallery visibility is limited to media backed up through the Samsung integration, not every item already in a Google Photos library. We found no current Samsung support instructions confirming exact supported models, rollout regions or app versions, so this guide does not promise them or advise sideloading app packages.

What should I check before unlinking or deleting anything?

  • Account: confirm which Microsoft account holds existing OneDrive files and which Google account would receive any new Google Photos backup.
  • Originals: check a few older photos and videos in OneDrive itself, including any items that were cloud-only; download copies you need locally.
  • New backup: verify a fresh test item in the destination app or web library before relying on the setting.
  • Deletion: do not use Gallery cleanup as a migration shortcut. Google's default-gallery access guidance warns that deleting in a linked device gallery can also delete a backed-up Google Photos copy, depending on the gallery and permissions.

Google's general help page does not currently list Samsung among its example supported gallery brands. Its linked-account and deletion cautions are useful safety checks, while the specific Samsung rollout and Gallery menu described above remain attributed to the reporters. If you need to move historical files between services, plan and verify that separately; the new Gallery choice is not evidence that a cross-cloud migration has happened.
