Why do clear phone cases turn yellow?
Clear polymers can change color as light, oxygen and heat alter their chemistry. Research on polyurethane and polycarbonate has documented UV-related photo-oxidation and yellowing, while additives and stabilization can reduce or delay the effect. That is why two clear cases—or even the flexible edge and rigid back of one hybrid case—may not age at the same rate.

Can cleaning reverse clear case yellowing?
Cleaning can remove surface oils and grime, but it should not be presented as a cure for polymer degradation. Follow the care instructions for the exact case. A soft, damp, non-abrasive cloth is the conservative starting point when permitted by the manufacturer. Avoid assuming that bleach, solvents, peroxide, abrasive powders or prolonged soaking are safe: they can haze surfaces, affect coatings, damage printed details or reach adhesives and magnetic components.
If the case still looks amber after surface residue is removed, the color may be within the material rather than on top of it. Aggressive “restoration” is not a reliable substitute for replacement and may reduce the case’s appearance or integrity.
