Tesla Model 3 16-Inch Screen Update: What Buyers Should Verify
Tesla announced a 16-inch screen for every new Model 3 in three North American markets plus trim-specific performance changes. Here is what changed, why Tesla's current pages still conflict and what buyers should verify.
Direct answer: Tesla North America says every new Model 3 in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico now gets a 16-inch center touchscreen, while Model 3 Performance gains a black headliner, a claimed 316-mile range and 528 hp, and Model 3 Premium AWD gets a claimed 3.8-second 0-60 time. Tesla's public Model 3 pages still showed older 15.4-inch, 510 hp and 4.2-second figures during our October 3 review, so buyers should verify the exact market, trim and order configuration before relying on either set of specifications.
The October 2 announcement creates an unusual buying moment: Tesla North America has described new hardware and trim specifications, but Tesla's public product and comparison pages had not yet caught up when Erawish checked them. This guide separates what Tesla announced from what those pages still displayed and from details that remain unconfirmed.
Which Model 3 markets were included in Tesla's 16-inch screen announcement?
Tesla North America's announcement says every Model 3 in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico now comes with a larger 16-inch center touchscreen. The wording covers all Model 3 trims in those three markets, but it does not establish the same change for Canada or any market outside that list.
The announcement also does not say that already-delivered cars can be retrofitted. A larger diagonal can affect physical dimensions, bezel shape, attachment points and nearby clearance, so owners should not infer a retrofit or accessory fit from the screen measurement alone.
What changed for Model 3 Performance and Premium AWD?
Tesla's post identifies additional changes for two dual-motor trims:
- Model 3 Performance: a black headliner, a claimed 316-mile range instead of 309 miles, and 528 hp peak power.
- Model 3 Premium AWD: a claimed 3.8-second 0-60 mph time instead of 4.2 seconds.
Those are announcement claims for the named trims, not universal results for every car or driving condition. Range and acceleration can vary with configuration, wheels, temperature, battery state, surface and test method. The retained sources do not explain the engineering changes behind the new figures.
Why do Tesla's current pages still show older numbers?
During Erawish's October 3 review, Tesla's public Model 3 page still showed a 15.4-inch center display, 510 hp for Performance and a 4.2-second 0-60 figure for Premium AWD. The Tesla comparison page also still exposed the older 15.4-inch display specification.
This does not prove that the announcement is wrong. It shows that Tesla's public surfaces were temporarily inconsistent. Product announcements, configurators, specification pages, order agreements and delivered builds can update on different schedules.
For a purchase decision, treat the exact order configuration and final agreement for the selected market as the decisive surface. Save or review the configuration details before placing an order, then confirm any important hardware or performance point with Tesla if the pages still disagree.
What should a buyer verify before ordering?
- Market: confirm the order is for the United States, Puerto Rico or Mexico; the announcement does not name Canada.
- Trim: separate the all-trim 16-inch display statement from the Performance-only and Premium AWD-only changes.
- Live configuration: check the screen and performance specifications attached to the actual vehicle configuration, not only a general landing page.
- Price and timing: verify the live order price and estimated delivery. The announcement does not guarantee unchanged pricing or a first delivery date.
- Accessories: confirm dimensions, mounting method and seller fitment for the 16-inch configuration before buying a screen protector, mount or dashboard accessory.
Will existing 15.4-inch Model 3 screen accessories fit?
Do not assume they will. A screen protector cut for a 15.4-inch panel should be treated as incompatible until its seller documents the new 16-inch display. Mounts and dashboard accessories may depend on the display housing, bezel, rear attachment area or surrounding clearance rather than only the diagonal measurement.
Erawish's Model Y screen-size fitment guide explains why display generation and dimensions matter for accessories, but it does not establish Model 3 compatibility. The Model 3 control-layout guide covers the vehicle's screen-led controls and storage setup; it also is not a fitment guarantee for this new display.
What remains unconfirmed?
- Whether already-delivered Model 3 vehicles can receive the 16-inch display as a retrofit.
- The first build date or delivery date for cars with the announced configuration.
- Whether or when the same changes apply in Canada or other markets.
- Any North American vehicle-to-load change; Tesla's current comparison surface does not establish one.
- Permanent pricing, the engineering source of the performance changes or universal real-world results.
- Compatibility with any existing 15.4-inch screen protector, mount or dashboard accessory.
