Direct answer: HomePod mini 2 costs $149 in the United States. Preorders opened October 13, with in-store availability beginning October 30. Siri AI is not included at launch: Apple says it will arrive later as a free software update, initially in English in eight markets. Personal-context requests require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, current software and a supported language.

Apple announced HomePod mini 2 as part of its October 13 home lineup. It is a separate product and reader task from the HomeView price and Siri AI guide. The earlier Welcome Home event guide remains the record of what Apple had confirmed before the product announcements.

How much does HomePod mini 2 cost and when is it available?

Apple lists HomePod mini 2 at $149 in the United States. Preorders opened October 13 in the U.S. and more than 23 countries and regions, with in-store availability beginning Friday, October 30. The five colors are pink, green, blue, white and midnight.

The $149 figure is a U.S. price, not a promise that local pricing, taxes or stock will match in every market. Buyers should check the current Apple Store page for their country before ordering.

Does HomePod mini 2 ship with Siri AI?

No. Apple says Siri AI will arrive later as a free software update. HomePod mini 2 is compatible with HomePod software 27.2, but buying the speaker on launch day does not establish that Siri AI is already enabled.

Apple initially lists Siri AI in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Apple does not provide a release date in the launch announcement, and it says Siri AI will not initially be available in the European Union in iOS or iPadOS.

Which Siri AI features need a compatible iPhone or iPad?

The owner of the home in the Home app needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad on current software, with Siri AI enabled in a supported language, to enable Siri AI on HomePod mini 2. Personal-context requests also require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device with Siri AI turned on and set to a supported language.

Once Siri AI is enabled on a supported speaker, Apple says household members without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad can still use broad world knowledge, conversational responses and improved music discovery. That does not give those users access to another person's private Messages, Calendar or app context.

Apple says HomePod mini can recognize up to six users by voice. Personal actions depend on each user's paired device and supported setup; the shared speaker does not make every feature universal across every account, device, language or region.

Siri AI usage limits and future fees

Apple's launch footnotes say some Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models have daily usage limits, and expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future. Apple's separate usage terms also say limits can vary by feature and that availability can change by device, software, language and region.

The hardware price therefore does not promise unlimited use of every Siri AI feature. Apple has not announced the future expanded-access price in the HomePod mini 2 launch release.

What is required for four-speaker surround sound?

Apple's four-speaker surround setup requires four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers arranged in matching front and rear pairs, paired with an Apple TV 4K (4th generation) running current software. The system identifies speaker positions and calibrates timing and levels for the room.

This requirement does not establish support for a first-generation HomePod mini, an older Apple TV 4K or an arbitrary mix of unmatched speakers. A single HomePod mini 2 can still play 360-degree audio, and two can be used as a stereo pair, but those are different setups from the new four-speaker surround mode.

What else changed in HomePod mini 2?

The new model uses Apple's S10 chip for computational audio and adds Sound Glow, which uses the top surface to display color-matched light effects based on music. It remains a home hub for compatible Apple Home and Matter accessories and supports smoke and carbon-monoxide alarm sound recognition.

The practical buying check is simple: confirm the current local price, October 30 availability, your Home app owner device, preferred Siri language and whether your intended Apple TV and speaker combination meets Apple's exact requirements. Do not buy it on the assumption that the future Siri AI update, every personal-context feature or the four-speaker mode works immediately with existing hardware.
