Direct answer: Apple TV 4K (4th generation) costs $299 in the United States. Orders opened October 13, with store availability beginning November 13. It has one 128GB configuration, an A19 chip, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7 and Thread. The new box is not required for Siri AI: Apple says the beta also supports Apple TV 4K second generation or later, subject to device, software, language and region requirements.

Apple announced the fourth-generation model as part of its October 13 home lineup. This page answers the new-model buying and upgrade question. Owners of the original box should use the separate 2017 Apple TV 4K repair and tvOS support guide, which covers vintage service and current software support rather than the new hardware.

How much does Apple TV 4K fourth generation cost?

Apple lists Apple TV 4K (4th generation) at $299 in the United States. Orders opened October 13 in the U.S. and 29 other countries and regions, with in-store availability beginning Friday, November 13.

The $299 figure is a U.S. price, not a promise that local prices, taxes, delivery timing or stock will match in every market. Apple lists a single 128GB capacity on the current technical-specifications page rather than separate Wi-Fi and Ethernet storage tiers.

What changed in the fourth-generation model?

The new box uses Apple's A19 chip. Apple reports up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance of the previous generation. A dedicated AV1 decoder is intended to make compatible high-quality streaming more bandwidth-efficient, but that does not mean every service or video automatically uses AV1.

Current specifications list 128GB storage, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7 with 2x2 MIMO, Bluetooth 6, Thread networking, HDMI 2.1 and a three-microphone array with voice isolation. The device supports video output up to 4K at 60 frames per second and lists Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Quick Media Switching among its supported formats.

Those specifications do not remove the normal setup requirements. Apple says 4K and HDR playback needs a compatible 4K/HDR television, and an HDMI cable is sold separately. Internet access and an Apple Account are required for services such as purchases, rentals and Home Sharing.

Do older Apple TV 4K models get Siri AI?

Yes, within Apple's stated boundary. Apple says Siri AI is available as a beta on Apple TV 4K second generation or later. Buying the fourth-generation box is therefore not a requirement for the Siri AI beta if an existing supported Apple TV and the rest of the setup meet Apple's conditions.

The owner of the home in the Home app needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad on current software, with Siri AI turned on and set to a supported language. Personal-context requests also require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device with Siri AI enabled in a supported language.

Apple initially lists Siri AI in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. It is not initially available in the European Union in iOS or iPadOS. Apple's launch footnotes and separate usage terms also say some server-backed features have daily usage limits, and expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future.

This means a supported older Apple TV can receive the conversational and discovery experience, but feature availability still depends on the account, owner device, paired device, software, language and market. It does not make every personal-context feature universal across a household.

What does Siri AI add on Apple TV?

Siri AI appears as a full-screen discovery experience. Apple says viewers can ask broad questions about shows, follow up while watching and use personal context for requests such as finding a title previously mentioned in Messages. The fourth-generation model also has built-in far-field microphones for hands-free voice activation.

The hands-free microphone hardware is a fourth-generation feature. Siri AI software eligibility on second-generation and later Apple TV 4K models is a separate boundary, so readers should not treat the two statements as interchangeable.

Which remote and home-theater features are included?

The current Siri Remote supports Find My, and Apple says the new remote works with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. Precision Finding is limited to the fourth-generation Siri Remote paired with a supported recent iPhone, while playing a sound to locate the remote is exclusive to the newest remote. The remote charges over USB-C; Apple's specifications say the USB-C cable and power adapter are each sold separately.

For Apple's new four-speaker surround setup, the box must be Apple TV 4K fourth generation on current software. The system uses four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod second-generation speakers arranged as matching front and rear pairs. That does not establish support for an older Apple TV, first-generation HomePod mini or an arbitrary mix of unmatched speakers.

What changes for the smart home?

Apple TV 4K remains a home hub for compatible Apple Home and Matter accessories. Apple lists remote accessory control, automations, guest mode, Thread networking and local processing for HomeKit Secure Video. The new model adds Apple Intelligence-generated camera activity descriptions and summarized notifications, subject to compatible cameras, services and the stated Apple Intelligence requirements.

Readers comparing the broader lineup can use the separate HomeView price and Siri AI guide. HomeView is a shared display and home-control product; Apple TV 4K remains the television-connected entertainment and home-hub box.

Should you upgrade?

The strongest reasons to consider the new model are the A19 performance, AV1 decoder, 128GB single configuration, Wi-Fi 7, built-in far-field microphones, newest remote features and fourth-generation-only four-speaker surround setup. Siri AI alone is not a fourth-generation-only reason because Apple extends the beta to Apple TV 4K second generation and later.

Before ordering, check your current Apple TV generation, television inputs, HDMI cable, network path, Home app owner device, preferred Siri language and intended speaker setup. Do not assume the U.S. price, every Siri AI function or every new home-theater feature applies unchanged to an older box or another market.
